i am thinking about buying a notebook soon and i am wondering if i would be able to upgrade my wifi card to 802.11n in the future and just get a laptop with a wireless g card right now
-
Shouldn't be a problem.
-
Yep -- you'll just have to open 'er up and replace the miniPCI card.
-
Well i guess it IS possible..i don't see y not..but u can customize some laptops with N right now....
-
VERY EASY...
especially if you have access from the bottom thru the large pannel...
be aware that HPs are locked to HP branded cards...
most other brands can be upgraded easily
one thing to keep in mind is that N draft cards need a 3rd antenna to function properly in N mode,, so you may/will be required to open your LCD cover to insert the antenna and run the wire thru the hinge
good luck

as far as i understand it,, Draft N,, is an almost official standard... it just has yet to be formally adopted... but most likely will... and a lot of the DRAFT N hardware will be firmware upgradable once a standard if finalized,
just my little rant
bigO -
it will work exept draft N uses 3 antenns vs a/b/g all use 2 antenns iv seen an hp dv9000 before with N and it had 3 while my dv6000 with a/b/g only has 2

I think u mean u lent ur dv6700t away Tippey...at least the laptop in ur display is the 6700t SEdtion. And AFAIK there isn't a SE in the 6500 series.
-
what brand and model of laptop are you going to be doing this with???
we may have tips on disassembly and such -
get the draft N card now. It makes no sense not to, IMO. Draft N will be finalized in early CY09 and most laptop cards will just require a firrnware upgrade.
Why not spend $20 now and do away with the hassle of buying another card, opening the lappy, installing a third antennae, etc.
I think draft N is working fine- it's just the products from different manufacturers don't always play nice together--stick w/ the same brand and/or chip for the card--router for full perfomance at this time.
