I have a 120gb i use to extend the space of my laptop and getting a new 500gb one to save documents, photos, ect from my comp and family so it all in one place, pics and website etc. Is it safe to have each plugged into my hub permanently or would it be better for the drives if i unplugged and plugged in each time i turned the laptop on.

For the drives, it won't make a difference.

For the laptop, if the electrical system in your house is working properly, there will be no difference.

You might find Windows has problems with recognizing external HDDs when resumed from hibernation, so if you use that it's better to unplug and plug back so they get recognized. But other than that, no trouble.
