do you think the new core i7 processors will require a new motherboard, or can i just stick with a c2d compatible one? if so, how much do you think it will cost to upgrade to a compatible motherboard?

No, its a completely different architecture. Even if you wanted to, you won't be able to use your c2d motherboard to utilize it.

The motherboard is totally going to be different, and there'll be a 0.001% chance that you'll find a motherboard compatible with the your notebook's current components and chasis.

You'll just have to by a new Calpella-based notebook.

I'm gonna say there is a 0% chance :) Besides, i7 is only for desktop right now.
