hi, quick ques, my friends laptop has DDR2 533 type ram, can i put in a DDR2 677 inside it??

Yes you can, the higher clocked memory will simply downclock to pc4200 speeds.
ddr2 667 = pc5300
ddr2 533 = pc4200
ddr2 memory, is backwards compatible, so you will be able to use pc5300 memory in your friends notebook.
