    I have Acer Aspire 5745G runs win7 premium 64 bit.Onboard had 2 x 2gb sticks ram with 2 spare slots.I bought 2 x 2gb sticks making total of 8gb.
    Bios says 8gb..System says 8gb(3.94 usable)..Task Manager says 4gb.

Why is it not seeing or using the 8gb when it says it has it?

    Thank you all

Sounds like it's only 32bit installation.

Run something like sisoft Sandra and check.

Must be your video card (or some other hardware) that is reserving that RAM (space) for it's own use).

Start Windows Task Manager, click Resource Monitor, click the Memory tab and see what it shows for Hardware Reserved in the bottom lefthand corner.

You can try to mix the RAM in the slots and see if that helps.

(Make sure you unplug the power cord and take out the battery when switching RAM sticks).

    You can also try:

Start, type msconfig, hit enter, click the boot tab, click advanced options and uncheck 'Max Memory'.

Oh, and reboot, of course. ;)

    Good luck.

Just make sure to still test the RAM - overnight is not over doing it.

    Glad to have helped.
