Hey, after a couple weeks of heavy research and dumb questions on the forums, I FINALLY picked up my new notebook this week. Thanks for all your help NBR forums!

I have one last really dumb question for the time being, though - if I take my PC outside to do work/game/etc (hey, i like the ambiance), are there any parts of my PC (screen especially) that would be sun-damaged at all? I understand the issue of overheating so I probably won't be running Oblivion outdoors during the summer, but being cooped up inside doing homework really gets old after a while and I just wanted to make sure I'm not increasing liability by venturing outdoors on the deck.

Thanks a ton and sorry for yet another stupid question!

dont think there should be any sun damage at all, just dont leave it under there for the whole day and unattended, in case it rains or it overheats

I'm not sure. My guess would be no, I've seen people use their notebooks outside without problems.

Though if you have a glossy screen you probably won't see anything if you're in the sun so you'll have to go in the shade.

Thibault nailed the one problem and it won't hurt it just hard to use. Just watch your temps, black especially absorbs heat. Get a 3rd party software (free) I use notebook hardware control to monitor temps (CPU & HDD), several others work well also.

most systems will auto shutdown if the systems core temp exceeds a certain degree, thanks to an earlier development by AMD known as COP, the only thing you should look for is rain or excessive dust.....or those gremlins who enjoy stealing electronics

other than that the only thing the sun can do is change the look of the beast, I highly doubt it would increase the temp to a degree melting internals.....unless you lay it on blacktop or another really hot object

The sun heats the earth to what? 100 degrees F on a hot day. That makes the hottest places (like in a car with the windows up) about 130 degrees F. My video card can hit 90 degrees Celcius while gaming.

    90 C = 194 F

Mine got up to 96 C

    96 C = 205 F :p

My graphic card could heat up the sun instead. ;)

Don't worry the specs say 100C=212F is max so you have headroom before all the safety stuff kicks in. Seriously cooler is better.

The "safety stuff" actually kicks on at 124 C for Nvidia cards, or 255 F, but if you're overclocking that much, you deserve a chunk of melted plastic. Ideal temperature is around 70.

your temperatures will be okay =)

Also i think you should be aware that if your going to eat while using a notebook get one of thous keyboard gloves so that pieces of dirt and grime wont get stuck with the keyboards, this will also reduce noise and may prevent a little water damage.

as for the glare problem get one of thous glareproof screen protectors that have privacy.

of depending on how much your outside you may want to do an annual cleaning of your notebook to clean out w.e is in there =)
