    No, it does not support 64bit. Only T23xx series PDC's support 64bit.

    so in a few years time 64bit os will be common and this laptop is history. wonder when will this day arrive?

    Ask him to run CPU-Z, it will tell him everything about the processor (including 64bit support : Listed as EM64T under supported instructions ) I dont think T2080 does, but you can make sure.

    Well, not quite. 64bit will take a while to become mainstream and typically being a budget system, the lenovo should be fine for the next 3-4 yrs and unless your friend is looking to keep the system for more than 5yrs, I wouldnt worry about the lack of 64bit support.

    Also, he might be able to upgrade to the newer 64bit PDC's or even some C2D's provided the chipset and the BIOS support the newer cpu's.

    yes, because there is a specific day set in the future when all the 32 bit CPUs will just stop working. (it's a secret so don't ask what day)
