I have an asus g51 and im trying to replace the thermal paste on the gpu and cpu. I have the laptop opened, took off the cpu and im assuming northbrodge heatsinl, cleaned off the thermal pad but i cant get the gpu heatsink to budge. I took off all 4 screw and i cant get it off.

    Any ideas?

Is it kind of stuck or is it something more that holds it down? I usually use some some force when things are stuck but that's just me, do at your own risk... :D

I got it off, used a hairdryer to loosen the thermal pads.

I was just going to say need to heat it up. I just turn the unit on for a moment to do that.

Also avoid any direct motion like pulling straight up, try to go at an angle by pulling up a corner or something.

Glad you got it off. I usually gently apply constant pressure for a while and it eventually comes off. Of course, depending on the thermal paste used, it can get harder to remove. Some pastes tend to develop a "death grip" making removal somewhat hard.
