    Hey friends,
I'm not sure if I'm posting in the wrong thread, but I'm wondering if anyone knows whether or not this is fixable? If anyone has any insight, let me know! Thanks

You more than likely will at least require a new screen panel possibly other things as well. If you know the model number then go onto fleabay and search it out. With that amount of damage you may just want to search out if someone had the entire upper panel from a disassembled system.

Thanks, I'll def check that out. I just purchased a replacement monitor... I'll look into a whole panel of that doesn't work out. Is replacing the whole panel a relatively easy DIY job?

Replacing the LCD panel only won't be an easy DIY job, changing the whole display assembly won't be simple either. In either case, it will require some delicate disassembly like for any laptop.

Also, depending on how much you paid for the laptop and how much the new parts will cost, a new laptop may be the better proposition here.

I have been considering buying a completely new system, but that's kind of a last resort type of scenario. I've been watching videos on screen replacement, but fear that the frame may be too warped/destroyed to get it back in working fashion. I haven't been able to find any videos on the replacement of the entire upper panel. If anyone has any resources on replacing the whole top panel, it'd be greatly appreciated. Also, would connecting an external monitor work if I'm unable to replace the current screen? Thanks!

You'd have to find the complete teardown manual and the section where you remove the screen hinges. That's how you'd replace the whole lid assembly. Assuming that nothing else is damaged, an external would work. That said, it looks like the laptop took a serious beating, from a drop or something else and other components may have been damaged from that.

Luckily I've tested it, and all the other hardware works fine.... At least as far as I can tell. It starts up fine, and can run programs stably, as far as I can tell at least.

Yes, not an easy job but doable on most systems. It wil be just about an entire tear down.

If this Acer is similar to Acer I used to have, changing LCD is rather easy, there are round plastic covers on 4 corners, you pop them out, undo 4 screws and bezel should come off, after that few more screws and LCD panel comes off. If the top lid is made of plastic and it's cracked, make sure it's straight and I would just glue it and put some plastic wrap on top, to hide the crack. Otherwise change whole top panel, but at some point it may be not worth it. Some laptops require complete disassembly to get to hinges and it's easy to break something doing so.

Two screws under the small covers at the front. Then remove bezel by grabbing it from the inside and gently twist outwards, from the middle top then left and right middle. Then corners should pop out easily.
LCD panel is probably connected by 4 small screws and the cable. Put together in reverse order.

Total time required maybe 20 minutes. That's pretty much the easiest thing to do, besides changing hdd/ram if they are easily accessible.

KLF is right, it's not a super complicated operation, but laptops are somewhat delicate. Take your time and be careful.

after using pliers to bend the metal frame back into place, and throwing away a few "extra" screws, im pleased to report that my laptop is up and running. All in all, it took about 40 minutes!

I'll never run out of screws. All I need to do is take one laptop apart and put it back together.

    Instant leftover screws.

Only replace, no way to fix broke panel, for acer not so expensive I buy a lot of parts on aliexpress.com and it's 3 time cheaper them on ebay or whatever
