Hello,
I want to replace a pentium M in socket PPGA478 for another CPU (notebook: SONY Vaio VGN-S1HP). Is it possible to install a faster CPU (do atoms fit?) or a cpu that consumes less battery and dissipates less heat?
thanks in advance

- Pentium M 715 (1.5 GHz) - yours
- Pentium M 725 (1.6 GHz)
- Pentium M 735 (1.7 GHz)
- Pentium M 745 (1.8 GHz)
- Pentium M 755 (2.0 GHz)
- Pentium M 765 (2.1 GHz)
All these CPU's have a TDP of 21W.

well then i will just keep it
thanks

If I were you, I would upgrade to a 755.
Since these are pretty outdated CPUs, it should not cost much at all. And you would get a 33% boost in frequency (1.5GHz -> 2.0GHz)

Is this one of the Dothan's on a (I think) 400 mhz FSB motherboards. What I'm getting at is the "pin mod" that was widely used and easy to install. I did it on a Dell M90 or a D600 and it made an enormous difference and ran very stable with no heat issues. Just goggle it!

I'm selling a 1.8 gigz Dothan that should work in your notebook in the marketplace

Unless you are hitting 100% CPU usage chances are a CPU upgrade will not help you any.

Pentium M's undervolt really well, to the point that they dont need any active cooling at all.

lol really? Do u have stats plz? I have a old Pentium M Dell Latitude D600.. runs too hot!

I did the pin mod on a Dell Preceison M20/Latitude D610 -

I will keep my 715 which I undervolted to 0,700V / 600Mhz and 0,908V / 1500Mhz..The fan does not turn on at all
Pin modding does not work with my chipset. -

well i don't use it.. my sis does and she doesn't care and i can't be bothered since i use my hp 99% of the time but when its about to die , i'll undervolt.. anyways , it already has a broken hinge.
replace pentium M (dothan) 715
