my laptop has a Intel Core i5-2410M with a socket " FCBGA1023, PPGA988". what im confused about is what exactly this means, which socket does it have natively?, and could i possible upgrade the processor to a i7-2630QM which has the socket " FCPGA988". speccy tells me that my mobo is " SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. RF511/RF411/RF711 (CPU 1)", which makes me think that all the RF series have the same mobo. or are their more processor upgrade options available other than the 2630QM?

also my screen is a standard 1366*768 , could i fit another 15.6 inch matte screen in the case, i have no idea if laptops use proprietary connections.

FCBGA is flip chip ball grid array. This means it doesn't have pins or a socket and its soldered to the motherboard. PPGA is plastic pin grid array.

Most 2630qm are not really FCBGA so wherever you are reading that its probably an error. As for your 2410m, it could be soldered, or socketed, its really hard to say. But generally it will be socketed unless your laptop is classified as a "thin and light" or ultraportable.

This means you can upgrade to a 2630qm or pretty much any 2nd gen i7.

For the screen, they don't use proprietary connectors, but there are 2 types of cables out there. Only 1 type supports 1600x900 and 1920x1080p. There might be 2 different cable models made for your laptop, or there might not be a cable that supports higher resolutions, or you might already have one that does.

Easiest way to find out about both of these things is to take it apart and look at it.

thank you for your response, and i have found out the true socket and its called " socket 988B rPGA", and believe me this is not a tiny laptop, its sporting the gt 540m, my other concern was the jump in watts the i7 has a tdp of 45w while cpu-z says my 2410m's max tdp is 35w, is it talking about how much watts its drawing from the battery or something else entirely?

i went searching around and i guess 10watts more dosent make a difference as i seen post from other forums saying they've upgraded to core2quads with way more tdp than 10watt differences
