i've found to possible upgrades for my laptop. One is a 16gb used samsung, and the other is a new 8gb supertalent. The website for the supertalent is, http://www.supertalent.com/products/ssd-commercial.php?type=IDE . The supertalent i think is a new version and has 60mb read/ 45mb write speeds. The samsung has 56 read and 32 write. Which one should i get considering that i can get both of them for the same price? Which one would be faster? I have read bad reviews about the old supertalent, do you think this one will be any different (if this is indeed a new version lol)?

i thought ssd drives were up around 100 read 80 write now. seems a little slow to me. maybe i'm smokin' crack. les (formerly flamenko) has a thread all about ssd drives. i would post the question to him. he seems to be an authority on the subject.

redrazor11 Formerly waterwizard11
-
the problem is that those ssds are double the $$$ of the ones i am lookin at
-
your right waterwizard , my laptop only takes pata

You should wait for a few weeks. Mtron is supposed to be releasing the 1000 series in April which will be in your price range for better performance and capacity return.
What system are you considering putting the ssd into? -
an asus s6f, but i dont think the 1000 series will be pata, and they're mlc
-
MLC ssds have far better performance results than those tested above.
-
the reason why i'd prefer slc is that it has more write cycles, but after what you said, i'm starting to wonder if it's just a myth. hmmm....

That may not be far off with the new mlc design from Mtron.
samsung ssd or supertalent ssd?
