So, from what I remember reading, I think it's the harddrive about to die, not sure though.

But my sager 9750, purchased july 2006, has been making some weird random scratchy noises to the upper left of the keyboard, inside. Don't know what that is. Along with that, it's been having problems freezing up lately too. Don't know if the issues are related, but it looks like my 3300 dollar computer is about to die. :(

    Ideas?

You could run diagnostic tests on the HDD
    What brand is it?

You'll have to take your hard drive to check your hard drive brand and model.

I would strongly suggest you to back up all your data before performing any diagnostic tests since that may stress your hard drive just a little - but it's better to be safe than sorry!

A good hard drive diagnostic tool is SeaTools. This is made by Seagate (a well know hard drive manufacturer)

    Right. You should backup first.

Then, take a look at the Ultimate Boot CD
    http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

You will find a lot of tools, including all the main HDD diagnostic tools from Seagate, Maxtor, Fujitsu, Western Digital, etc.

not sure what is the internal layout of your laptop, but it could also be the cooling fan (or fans) getting too much dirt on them and got stuck ...

I also hear some screechy noises from my HDD (I suppose) during the morning hours..., I ran HDDHealth and it said 'No Issues'...
