Hey all. My Vostro's screen has been acting up lately. I got the notebook in 2007 and it's served me well with very few problems.

A few months ago, the external battery finally died and I had to buy a generic replacement. That didn't give me any problems, and I don't know if it's related to the problem I'm currently having. The issue now is that the screen will go blank if I move it on its hinge. There has always been a little slack on the hinge, but it's never given me problems before. When the screen goes dark, the backlight will still be on, but the video feed will sort of blink on and off before going completely blank. Other than that, the software appears to be in normal working order.

Any ideas? As I can't afford a new computer right now, I need this one to hold up a while longer.

Looks a loose or failing LVDS cable. To check that out will require a bit of disassembly though, if the cable is loose, disassembling the laptop and disconnecting and reconnecting the cable on both ends will fix it.

I agree with the above reply on your issue... Check a round the hinge area to insure that nothing is bare on the LCD cable, and not possibly shorting it out or any excessive wear on the cable due to the state of your hinges.
