    Hi all

I am looking to replace my inspiron 1720 and currently considering the inspiron 17.

I was extremely happy with the 1720 - speed, screen resolution, overall performance, but as I purchased this over 2 years ago I'm not up to date with the current technology of laptops.

Can anyone please help with the following components comparison:

    current 1720:- dual 500gb sata 5400 drives ( 2 x 250gb)
    - 17.0" UltraSharp Widescreen WUXGA (1920x1200) TFT Display with TrueLife
    - Memory Dual Channel 4.0GB (2x2048) 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    - NVIDIA® GeForce Go 8600M GT with 256MB DDR2 dedicated graphic memory

    new 17:
    - Up to 640GB 5400RPM hard drive
    - 17.3 inch HD+ WLED Glossy (1600x900)
    - Up to 6GB3 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM4
    - Standard ATI Mobility RadeonTM HD 5470 1GB

(especially keen to know how the 2 screens and graphics cards compare as well as whether its any benefit/ disadvantage in having 1 x 500gb hdd vs 2 x 250gb hdd)

    many thanks for your help!

    regards
    H

The new studio 17 isn't that good... i strongly suggest you get the Studio XPS16.. with the RGB screen and ATI 5730 which will trash the 5470 which is actually worse than a 8600M GT...
