sdhc simply stands for sd high capacity.
Usually the sdhc cards support pio 4 or higher, which is better for bandwidth.
I have a few adata 4gb 150sdhc cards and they can do about 20mb/sec.
If you want faster performance, I would look into compact flash. You can get a 8gb 266x adata card for about $80, which will be able to do 40mb/sec.

I hope you are not planning to use a sdhc card to replace the harddrive, cause operating systems really tax the flash memory, which can result in the operating system burning the memory card out.

just for the ubuntu.. i know it does, i've read before, but i wana try it anyways... my laptop doesn't have a cf reader, i dont think....

besides burning out the memory card, it won't do anything to the laptop itself would it?

Well technically the sd card wouldnt burn out, it would simply die. nand memory cells have a limited read/write access before they simply cannot store information anymore. When a memory cell dies, the memory cad will simply stop working. It will have no adverse negative affects on your laptop. SImply plug in another card.
I recommend the 4gb sdhc cards by adata. Newegg had a deal on them a while ago, and I got it for like $6 after a $10 instate rebate.
It was a pretty good deal, I have not installed an os on it, I primarily use it for my samsung nv camera.

Class 6 is better and faster
Class 2 is more expensive, because there is no demand for it.

just wondering- if you want to completely stop writes to the card, would using the write protect switch on an sd / sdhc card work?
