Is there a site that will tell me whether I can install the seagate momentous 7200.4 at 500gb in my new (albeit lower end) Gateway MD2614u (upgraded to 4GB of pc6400 RAM). Is there a compatibility list, or a way to know whether it will work if I install the drive. It currently runs a 250GB 5400 RPM drive, so the upgrade would be nice if it is possible.
Sorry if this is a stupid question, I just don't want to spend the money and have something useless to me on my hands.
Thanks in advance for any help,
    John

As long as your current HD has SATA interface, you should be able to install Seagate with your laptop.

no problems, you can run 4GB memory, 500GB HDD will be no problem.

There is no relationship between the RAM size and the HDD capacity. You can have a 500GB HDD with 64MB RAM too. No need to worry.

Make sure that your laptop uses SATA interface (not PATA/IDE) for the hard drive. That's all..

2 things to make sure of:

    1. (As correctly stated above) Make sure it is SATA interface and not PATA/IDE or ZIF.
2 Make sure the hard drive slot is 2.5 (standard laptop drives are 2.5 inches) and not 1.8 inches (some ultraportables or small/thin ones)
