Exact how much improvement is it compared to non-hybrid other 7200RPM drive? In term of power usage, and transfer speed. Seek time is less of an issue for me. Sure SSD, would be nice, but it doesn't fit my need.

i think it needs more than 4 gb of ssd to be usable. how much memory does the entire windows 7 64 bit os use? i really like this concept but 4 gb is not enough

You mean you got the same restock notification from newegg that others who were waiting for it signed up for?

    Props...

    Thanks!

1201NFTW - I don't think the 4 GB SSD are used for storing the OS. I think they are just assisting the rest of the HDD, like some sort of super cache or something. It sounds a bit complicated!

sounds like it, i thought it was like a hybrid where it can store certain things on the ssd part and certain things on the standard hdd part? computers are way more confusing than they were back in 2005 which i got my 17" dell notebook

It decides what to store, basically, if you use a program more then thre times in a row it caches it and thenthat program is fast as he'll. Otherwise it's anotmal7200 stove. I like it well enough

Windows 7 with superfetch will basically get you the same performance, its quite useless. Granted that if you still run windows Vista and do not plan on upgrading to windows 7 then it will make a big difference on boot times and such.

It does well .. but not better than any other 500gb 7200rpm with windows 7.

This is not a SSD alternative.

On to more important things this is not gonna be a SSD killer son look at the space and price it is not to replace ssd but to bridge the gap between traditional platter HD and SSD. Find me a decent price on a 500gb 7200rpm 32mb cache and look at the price around $100 for a slight bit more you will get a much better performing hard drive and one that has the latest technology. Hell dell was trying to charge me $135 for a 500gb 7200rpm and i would have to give up my 160gb. Instead i picked the 160gb which i will make into an external and paid $136 shipped with a 5yr warranty for the momentus xt hybrid ssd which is hands down better than a traditional 7200rpm HD.

lolz thanks....i just hope many members can see this and order this HD over the one's Dell is forcing you to get. Also many members want to get the m11xr2 i7 with the momentus versus m11xr1 with SSD to help with even out the cost. I am glad i was able to get my order in time i was planning on just getting a 7200rpm 500gb 16mb cache for like $65-70 but i am glad i waited higher cache, 4gb nand and 5 yr warranty. WOOT WOOT!!!!

please do not wait till tomorrow look at the tracker history shows it will last only 5 hours max. I am hoping newegg has tons of inventory but most vendors are saying mid july. CDW,TIGER DIRECT, ZIPZOOMFLY and other smaller vendors...IF you can jump on it and you will not regret it.

That's nonsense, of course; it does significantly better than non-hybrid drives. Why don't you just look at the benchmarks that have been posted.

Of course it isn't, and nobody said it is. However, if you need the storage, and you want the fastest notebook drive with that capacity, this is the one.

Superfetch doesnt even compare to the momentus XT. Look at the reviews seriously.

Ok guys, just stop it. I need to order my second drive tomorow after the 48 hour cooling off period. After that you can all resume ordering........ :)

Seriously though I ordered my first one, it will have to sit in a really dark corner until I get a second drive for Raid0. They are a hard item to find and now Asus is using them up in the G73jh's it may be even harder.

I guess though no Raid0 for Fathers day, oh well............. :(

Edit, they are out again, no ETA............. :(

Amazon in the US is saying 1-2 months, these are extremely rare for the moment. I am sure they will be plentifull later, especially once we start seeing competitions answer.

For say 450-500 street I would love to see an Intel x25-e 32GB equivelant and 7K500 married. Mass production may even drive that down to 350-400 street quickly.
