i have a g42-230us turion II. the CPU temp is around 52c idle. should i replace the interface cooling material with a higher quality?

52C isn't horrible, but if it isn't to hard to get to your CPU, I'd re-paste.

It will always help, but if it isn't giving you any problems, you will never notice the difference. Tons of people do it just for the piece of mind though.

52*C idle seems a bit high. What are your load temperatures?
Run HWMonitor:
CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting
. . . then run wPrime 1.55:
Downloads | wPrime Multithreaded Benchmark
Run as Administrator; to to the advance options and set the # of threads to 2 and then click save; then run the 1024M test and watch the CPU temps. If they get above 80*C then that's not good. Don't worry, the notebook will automatically shut off if it gets too hot. -
thankyou for that wprime. never seen that before. i did run it and the temp stays at 55c. the fan on the laptop is set to not be on all the time hence the higher temp.
i'm not ready ready to crack open the notebook yet. but i will and when i do i'm going to see what kind of material they have on there and replace. -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
What is your ambient room temperature? If it's like 34-40C then your idle temperature isn't worrisome. If it's like 20C then you have an issue.
should I replace cooling with artic silver
