    Hi.

has anybody tried silver-plating the contact area that touches the CPU die with silver.

I have a bottle of silver plating solution that you simply apply with a cloth.

the bottle says it use "MOLECULAR PLATING"

I have just plated a copper coin, and it works great, it only took a couple of minutes to do.

Most of the expensive thermal compounds contain sliver.

would it be worth doing or would it be a waste of time.

    regards

    John.

Try a silver based thermal paste. Not sure what you would gain from molecular plating in silver. It's the tiny air gaps that you lose conductivity.

Do a chart with and with out, what do you see?

Actually, plsting will work better than paste.
    why?
When you plate something, it is a liquid in solution with a methy alcohol. the alcohol readily dissociates and evaporated is air, leaving a perfectly level surface.
Just make sure that when you are plating the heatsink, that the heatsink is level and upside down.
Liquids will seek true "level" ground.
Take some pics, it should be interesting

Let us know how it works out for you.
I would also use a dab of arctic silver 5 to just connect the small gap between cpu and heatsink.
