This thread lists some slot-in burners. You can see if any are still avalable.

I got the Samsung SE-T084L external slimline burner and took it apart then put the bare drive into my notebook. The label said SN-T082 but it also supports Lightscribe and will read and write 8cm discs. However, it looks as if the SE-T084L is being discontinued.

    That's a good price.

The inside of the enclosure looks like the attached. (More photos available if needed).

However, there is one possible drawback. Mine insists on running at half speed. This is because the firmware looks for a signal that external power is connected to the enclosure (otherwise it runs at half speed in order to not overload a single USB port power rating).

In other respects it runs fine and the lower speed isn't usually a problem in day to day use.

Yes, Lightscribe is there as well. I think the only difference between many Lightscribe and non-Lightscribe burners is the firmware and the price. You may have noted that the label in the other photo says SN-T082 at the top and SE-T084L at the bottom (by the bar code).

It will run at full speed in the external enclosure with external power. Unfortunately, when mounted internally in a notebook the drive defaults to half speed.

Not that I've managed to figure out. Samsung's "Magic Speed" program has no effect. It's probably necessary to fake a signal on one of the lines on the connector.
