    What does it mean if my dvd drive has slot loading? what are the advantages/disadvantages?

    Disadvantages to slot loading drives is they can't handle mini CD/DVDs you often get bundled drivers on, and they're a real PITA if they decide to jam for some reason. At least with a tray loader, you can force them open with a paperclip.

    Still, they do look cool. :)

    I almost got the slot load drive for $25, until I realized that I would be just the type of person who might accidentally break off half a CD-ROM in there.

    Wouldn't it be worse if you accidentally broke off the entire tray instead of just a CD? At least the CD is easily replacable.

    Also, there is nothing between the spinning disk and you, ergo de facto, the drive makes more noise.
