You are referring to the new 1 TB 2.5" hard drive, they are 12.5mm in height not the standard 9mm. If your current drive is 2.5" SATA then that drive you posted in the link will work.

Your chipset is the PM965 Santa Rosa will support SATA2, all Intel chipsets core the Core Duo and up support SATA2/300. I'm surprised it came with a SATA1 drive if that indeed is the case.

Yes, faster spinning drives often can cause more vibrations, noise and heat than slower spinning drives. However if the drive starts clicking like mad, then the drive has issues. Otherwise, it is perfectly normal, even though it is downright annoying.

Sometimes updating Seagate firmware will make it quieter. There's a chance it might brick your drive, so back up your data accordingly!

i think that 7200 maybe have a more vibration than 5400 on the same model.is that logical maybe for the extra speed?on the seagate site the 7200.4 specification has the same as 5400 but difference is on rotation and buffer..

Seagate has also been known to have some QA issues with their drives; you may just have a drive that isn't quite properly balanced, causing the extra vibration.

Performance-wise, yes, although the differences won't be highly noticeable. Some Scorpio Blacks have been known to have some extra vibration too, although it seems to be generally a little less than the Momentus.

    Hello,

No, it is not at all compatible. The WD20EARS is a _desktop_ 3.5" drive. It's much too large for your notebook. You need a 2.5" drive, most likely a 2.5" 9.5mm drive (your notebook may be able to take a 12.5mm drive, but it's unlikely). To this end, the largest capacity drive you can buy at the moment is a 750 GB drive.

seagate 7200.4 is known to vibrate quite a bit. I've had a Western Digital Scorpio Black, and Hitachi 7k500. Both are 500GB, 7200RPM, 16mb Cache.
The Hitachi has no vibration, and sounds exactly like the original 5400RPM drive, the Scorpio Black is quiet, but does vibrate a tiny bit. I would suggest returning the Seagate 7200.4 and getting the Hitachi 7k500 or Western Digital Scorpio Black.

Newegg.com - Western Digital Scorpio Black WD5000BEKT 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive

    Newegg.com - HITACHI Travelstar H2IK5001672SP (0S02858) 500GB 7200 RPM 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive
