...for uz that plan on upgrading to blu-ray drives any time soon (as I), look @ this article....if it's a legit move, i'll def. hold out until the tech goes mainstream and there's a drive on the market for my laptop & desktop....

If this is so, I wonder if Sony will update their PS3 w/ it. I doubt it though :p

it looks like a move in about 2 yrs. till then the existing double-layer technology will be king. this kind of sucks, because in a few years when quad layer is mainstream, existing blu-ray players & drives will become old news for those that bought them. but then again, HD-DVD became old news in 1 year since it's mainstream debut & use, so this blu-ray leap isn't that bad...

sigh...the vicious cycle of technology :p

but i wouldn't hold my breath for this new sanyo laser. they don't know how well it'll perform yet and it even says not to expect it anytime soon.

ps3 is still king of the blu-rays :)

No to sony supporting it. One to two years puts the technology out sometime around when the PS4 will be announced. A firmware update to the PS3 could NOT make the PS3 support such a system. Pretty exciting though :)
