    hi guys
    i have a sony vaio laptop and want to upgrade the cpu
    currently i have an i5 2450m but i thought about upgrading it.
    Does anyone know what cpu would fit?
    i thought of an 2nd gen i7 or an 3rd gen i5 or i7
    the socket is g2

    Yes 2nd and 3rd gen share both the socket and underlying architecture and are generally interchangeable.

    However.
    The BIOS may not have the microcode for a 3rd gen CPU. Have a look through the change logs for all the BIOS updates you can find for your model for a line "added support for" 3rd generation/Ivy Bridge/models ix-3xxx or something like that.

    Cooling may be marginal or insufficient for a 45W quad core. But the low clocked quads i7-3610qm/3630qm are 35W TDP CPUs which is the same as the dual cores, so should be OK. 35W is enough for at least 3ghz all core hyperthreaded load which is still plenty enough for the average user

    My Main Problem is that I cant find any BIOS Update for my Laptop
    There is nothing about BIOS on the official Website...
    Sorry for my Bad englisch by the way
    I am german
