Hey,
I own a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ21Z which is running Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit. I upgraded my laptop recently from Vista Home Premium to Vista Ultimate and installed all the drivers and the laptop is working great.
But just noticed that anytime I plug headphones or speakers into my laptop the sound does not switch to them like they used to, The sound keeps coming out of the laptops internal speakers.
I went into my sound options and playback devices and the speakers/headphones are listed there and when I right click them and select test I hear a sound coming from them but they simply do not take over sounds from the laptops internal speakers.
Do any of you know how I can fix this problem?

Hmm, it sound like a hardware failure.
Do your headphones work on a different computer?
Cause if the headphone jack is broken, the system will not know that a headphone is installed, and will continue to play through the built in speakers.
Also, make sure that the headphone jack is firmly installed into the jack on your laptop.
If the problem still occurs, try reinstalling your audio drivers.
Good luck
