Hello, I have a seven year old Sager 9280 laptop. Since ownership I had to replace the screen inverter cable and USB controller card. Both are beginning to fail again. The symptoms are screen intermitantly starts streaking. As in

The USB symptoms are two out of four ports are completely dead. The other two keep connecting and disconnecting from my printer and scanner.

But now I am outside warranty. Sager say they cannot get the parts for me anymore. So I am wondering if anybody here can help me. I am prepared to purchase second hand if these came from a reputable source with limited warranty.

The part number for the USB controller is

    6-71-D90F3-D01

    and for the inverter

    6-43-D90C1-011-A

I reside in Ireland but am willing to source it internationally.

Hoping someone can help because it would be shame to have to thrash the whole thing on account of this issue.

    Regards
    Siawacsh

Hi Tanware, I am wondering if you still help me out. The two links you send me have turned into a deadend. The manufacturer is still maintaining that Clevo do not make parts for my laptop anymore. They claim that link had to do with a previous order. The other vendor has been completely none responsive to two emails I sent them. And when tried calling there was no answer.

Fortunately, I came across this site.

    http://www.eurocom.com/ec/upgrade(2,290,0)ec

The down side is the fact that the prices are close to three times what I paid the manufacturer when the same parts failed last in 2013. We are talking about $240 for an LCD cable and a USB board plus shipping.

I also was introduced to another vendor who seems to represent Clevo in the UK in some capacity, though I am not sure what. These guys have prices reflecting the manufacturer's price. The down side here is the fact that they do not accept credit cards or paypal payments. Only form of payment is bank wire. For the same parts as the above these guys are charging a very reasonable $54.

So my question/request is for some tips on which way to go. I know I definitely need the parts. They are also components which have failed in the past. I also hope for another three years of life out of this expensive machine. Are the higher prices reflective of quality or profiteering.? Put another way, is the lower priced generic parts risk getting sub standard parts? This is apart from the opacity in not being able to use a credit card.

I hope this laptop can last another three years. My previous Dell Latitude far out lasted this one costing 50% less. Suffice to say, I am not at all happy with Sager's customer service and the fallacy that Clevo's is unable to supply the parts.

    Many thanks in advance.
