Does stepping code matters in p3 cpu upgrade? I recently acquired a old(do not laugh) tecra 8100 at 500mhz. And it is slow. Toshiba had this series of computer in different speeds ranging from p3 450mhz to 850mhz. I am thinking about the 850mhz. When went to Intel site I realized the p3 850mhz cpu were made / categorized with different stepping codes(about 5 of them). So how do I know which is the one Toshiba used in it's machine? I went to Toshiba Support no information available.Or does new BIOS support every version of setpping codes?I appreciate any help / ideas on this matter and thanks in advance. Please do not suggest just buy a new netbook for it's way better and cheap and all that.Thanks.

I think as long as the socket is correct, chipset supports the CPU and the BIOS is up to date then it should work.

You could probably just overclock though. I could help you with this if you don't mind taking apart the notebook.
