It's a Philips COMBO. It makes strange sound when it tries to detect whether any disk is in the drive. The sound is fairly loud and like those made by a cassette player when reversing the play side. I doubt if that is from motions of the reading head in the drive. The drive still works but the sound is just disturbing. It was quiet until yesterday. I just installed some windows updates. Will that be the cause of that strange sound?

    Thanks for any help.
