Why dont more notebooks have hot swappable optical drives? As a college student when i go to class or am out i dont really need an optical drive, in fact most of the time i dont need it. Why dont manufacturers offer hot swappable drives, so i could use a second hard drive, or a second battery? A second battery could take a 3-4 hour laptop to a 6-8, that would be amazing. Yet it seems so rare these days.

Battery and drives use different board connectors that cannot be shared. Swappable drives are good ideas as already being offered by a few manufacturers.

So far, swappable drives are common only in business laptops, although I also hope we'll see more of them in the future.

What kind of laptop do you have? That would help.

A very good idea indeed, you finding the optical drive not very helpful is among the reasons why the netbooks were born. Many laptops do have many seemingly unhelpful components that only add to weight and size.

^^yeah netbooks are alright, but their too small for me.
@Tippy764
I was just wondering why we dont see them very commonly. -
I have lenovo T400 and i replaced my optical drive with a SSD drive for more storage
