Hi,
I need a much smaller notebook than the one I have now. I'm thinking about buying an XPS M1200 with this processor (this particular model: specs in Polish but understandable). Has anyone used this processor and can share their experience? For example, I'm now using AMD Turion 64 at 800 MHz in my Fujitsu Siemens -- is the speed comparable?
Any comments about this processor, and this notebook, welcome.
Many thanks!

A AMD Turion 64 at 800mhz? 800mhz is the CPU speed?
The Core2Duo T5500 runs at 1.66Ghz. It is pretty fast. Faster then any AMD Turion, do you have an X2? otherwise it is not dual core. I think you will see a great improvemnt in speed. Fast enough for office tasks and games for sure. It is a good CPU so dont worry. -
I use the T5500 for all my gaming... Core 2's are really fast no matter what speed since they perform 4 operations every clock cycle.
See my sig. -
Thank you very much for your responses! My current FSC runs with Turion64 at 800 MHz as the bus speed; actually I don't know the nominal speed of this cpu (shame on me).
Once again, thank you both. This has helped! -

Do you know what model AMD Turion you have? It only runs at 800MHz when idle to save power/reduce heat. It's probably 1.6 - 2.0GHz, somewhere around there.
Yes the T5500 is an excellent CPU, very powerful. It is a nice upgrade compared to your AMD Turion. -

Do all XPS M1210s have the Goeforce go 7400?
I think the gpu is more of an issue for gaming than the cpu (unless the game is supreme commander!) The T5500 should be perfectly good for gaming. -
Turions should have 800mhz FSB's, but I'll bet the processor is still around 1.6-1.8ghz..
If you right click on "My Computer" and then click properties, it should tell you how fast your processor is, or atleast a model number.
Either way the CPU should be a nice upgrade for you. -
T5500 works for me

For example, I know the HT link to the Northbridge only runs at 800mhz. -
According to Control Panel -> System, my Turion is "AMD Turion(tm) 64 Mobile Technology ML-37 800 MHz". To see the actual clock, I would probably need to reboot my computer and see the BIOS messages. I haven't rebooted for a month or so (I'm working on a large project, requiring several apps, and opening them up again and putting in their appropriate positions on the screen with proper files open just takes too much time -- that's why until I'm done with the project, I put the computer to sleep instead of switching it off).
Anyway, thank you again for the answers. It looks like T5500 is a good choice. Now, I have noticed that there is a Sony Vaio CZ2 available with almost the same specs (T5500, RAM 2 GB, NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400). I don't really know anything about the quality of these two manufacturers, so which one would you, experienced folks, get: Sony Vaio CZ2 or Dell XPS M1210?
Thank you all! -
I've been able to read the CPU speed using "cpuinfo" software. Currently it shows "1975.2 MHz"

You have 2Ghz single core CPU reports 800Mhz because “Power Now” option is on to conserve battery life and helps with heat. It will use the full 2Ghz when needed, you can override it and always run 2Ghz if you want. I would not, for me more about heat than battery.
In single threaded applications when you are not multi-tasking I dare say the ML-37 is faster. AMD website compares TL-56 (2X 1.8Ghz) vs T5500 and TL-56 is overall about 5% faster. Core for Core 2Ghz AMD faster than 1.66 Ghz Core 2 (sorry Intel fans). Real World with you running multiple apps I definitely think you will see lots of improvement because of the extra Core. I have Turion 64X2 1.6 and very happy, works great, fast and the T5500 is a little faster (I doubt real world anyone could even tell), as things advance 2 cores will really help, plenty fast, buy it if you like the price and computer go for it. It's about twice the CPU of what you have now.
Sony 2GB RAM and go 7400 a plus if Dell has Intel GMA, I would pay more for the Sony if That is the case.
t5500 processor any good?
