I am trying to decide between a gateway nx100x and the dell xps 1210. The gateway only has a u1400 at 1.2ghz and is thinner and lighter then the dell. But the dell has a better processor. My question is if i run both comptuer on mainly battery power is the 1.2ghz u1400 equal to the t5600 if it downclocks to 1ghz on battery power

Doesn't seem like there is any way for the 1210 to get better battery life unless its battery is significantly higher capacity, as the Gateway model is designed for long battery life rather than performance.

It depends on what you need, better performance or top-notch battery life.

Im not trying to see if they are equal in battery life i am wondering if the 1.2ghz and the t5600 clockdown to 1Ghz are about the same performance wise.

Oh, yeah. The t5600 would probably do even better in most tasks.

see my ultimate problem is i want the light weight and under 1 inch thickness but i don't want to give up power, but i also think the 1210 is just to thick and also about 3/4 pound heavyer

Well, that goes back to what I was saying about what you think is more important and what suits your needs the best. Have you looked at any other options than these two models?

I have considered some other but they didn't fit to well. I dont want a 4200rpm hd there to slow and that what most of the other ultrportables have. if you know of any other notebooks 1" thin or less that have a 5400rpm hd let me know they may work, i was trying to keep the price at a max of 1400

Well, upgrading the hard drive yourself is always a possibility if you find another option that is fits perfectly save for the hard drive. Have you looked at the HP dv2000, or is it too large for your liking?
