hi currently i have a dell studio 1537 with a c2d p8400 processor and i love it but i was wondering is there much difference for pretty much a basic user. i would be using it for college and whatever programs they would use and intend to go into business, web browsing, streaming music and movies, and playing some games like counterstrike type game. i dont do serious gaming like crysis, wow, and games like that.
my 1537 has the 4500mhd integrated but i was wondering if i a t5800,t5900, or even a t6400 would have that much of a difference comapared to a p8400. of course the t series processors would have a ati 3450 gpu with it

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
The P8400 is much better than either the T8500, T5900, ot T6400 in both processing power and power consumption. In day to day use, you would probably not notice much of a performance difference, but you may notice an increase in heat and a drop in battery life, especially if you add the 3450.

From a performance standpoint, you're not losing more than 10-12% off of the P8400 with the T5800, which as noted is not going to be noticeable in everyday use.
In terms of battery life, the power efficiency of the Core 2 Duo P8000/P9000 series is overstated. I estimate a 20 minute difference at most with the P8400 over the T5800.
Since you already have the P8400, stick with it. Nobody ever complained about a little bit more processing power and battery life. -
I switched from a laptop with a t5800 to an identical one with a p8400 and noticed a decent bit more battery life. Preformance im not so sure about because im not into cpu intensive tasks.
t5800 compared to p8400
