Hi there, would really appreciate if someone could give me some help/guidance to figure out what is wrong with my laptop.
Its a 2 year old thinkpad e530, intel core i7 3632qm, 8gb ram, dedicated graphics card. came with 750gb hdd but i upgraded it myself to a 120gb ssd and use the 750gb hdd on a second caddy for storage. runs windows 7.
Was working fine until a few months ago. Started crashing when running more demanding games and when moved(even just a little bit). when it crashes theres usually a loud static sound, the screen freezes and the only option i have is to reboot. Sometimes after it crashes i'll get the BSOD.

I've given it a clean install and problem still occurs, so its definitely hardware related. any suggestions how to find out what the problem is?

    cheers

Check the connection for SSD and HDD. Maybe a problem is there.

Static sound could be coming from speakers, but it also could be coming from spark, like some wire touches the ground, spark fly making crackle sound and crashes everything due to power surge, but you would be the only one to figure it out. Either way I would open it up and check every single wire, something is loosing contact or shorting.

Sounds like something is loose, shorting, etc. That would explain why it crashes when you move it.

Your laptop crashing when it heats up could easily be as a result of heat causing metal / plastic parts to expand with heat.

The "static" sound you hear is probably a symptom of power suddenly being cut off from the laptop, and not the cause of the laptop crash itself.

Overall, I'd recommend that you open the laptop back up, unseat / reseat everything (CPU, RAM, SATA drives, all cables, etc), re-appy thermal paste.

If it still doesn't work, time to call Lenovo support and report what is most likely a faulty motherboard.

hey guys thanks for all the suggestions. first thing i tried was disconnecting the caddy for the secondarey hdd and voila', problem sorted. still a bit of a hassle but was worried it would be something more serious. its a cheap caddy i bought off ebay so probably should have tried this sooner as it would have been a prime suspect but hey at least its sorted now. thanks again for the suggestions
