What kind of tasks do you do on your 8100?

The Dell Inspiton 8100 is a very old notebook. I sold mine just 2 months ago. It is fine for basic office tasks and even some gaing on the nVidia GeForce Go 256.
What specs do you currently have. It may not be worth upgrading. However, if the upgrade costs more than $300, you may as well buy a new laptop, -
microsoft windows xp professional, intel pentiumlll,868mhz,256mb or ram

To be honest you dont need to upgrade at all, for those basics programs you use. Most people greatly over estimate the amount of processing power they need.
I wouldnt upgrade anyhting more than the RAM, maybe sticking in another cheap 512MB RAM Module if your PC is solwing down, bit I wouldnt upgrade anything more. The laptop is too old now, and any expensive upgrades would be pointless. -

I agree, especially with MS Vista already out. -
Use it for a few more month and then get a Vista-preloaded one. Upgrading it won't help at all.

-
YES, there is a mini-pci slot inside of your 8100, so you can put internal WIFI.

You can get a new battery from the Dell website. Click here.
You can try to find a generic battery for your laptop, but there are some risks involved there. Read here for more information. -
Or just use a USB WiFi dongle. Or PCMCI card.
to buy new laptop or to upgrade?
