If you did that 50 times , it probably would cause problems. But once I don't think there can be damage.

It's just like unplugging a desktop while it's on. You can corrupt files and whatnot.

Technically, if you remove the battery while your laptop is on, it should stay on.
Wouldnt your AC power cord be plugged in?
If its shutting off when you remove the battery, and the AC power plug is in, than that's just weird.

If its unplugged and you shut it off by removing the battery, than you can cause problems with your harddrive. For example, in hdtune you can read the S.M.A.R.T. values. When you do this, you can see it in the "Power Off Retract Count" line. I have done it 36 times with my E1505, according to hdtune. Well some of those were me shutting it off by holding down the power button

No, it really can't cause problems. How do you think external hard drives get turned on and off?

The drive heads get parked when you safety remove.

Pshh, who does that? The heads park themselves anyway. There really is nothing that can be damaged, other than in some cases data being written.

Like I said, corrupt data is what you have to worry about. If a critical system file was being written to, you've got a repair install on your hands.

If you are removing the battery while on AC power (plugged into the socket wall) and the laptop is in operation, I don't think there's anything to worry about.
It would be troublesome for the files if you are on battery and removed the battery while not plugged in and forcing the laptop to shut down because of lack of a power source.
