hi guys, i need your help to figure out which type of cpu and how high i can go to upgrade this laptop toshiba a135-2386. example duo core or core 2 duo and what the highest speed this will take? will it make a big different after i upgrade the higher cpu speed? i had no idea which mobo model it had on this laptop and where to get the info from, all i know it a intel duo core.
please let me know thanks alot.
here my spec

On ToshibaDirect.com, it looks like some of the A135s have Core 2 Duo processors; you can go all the way up to a T7600 (2.33GHz/4MB L2/667MHz FSB) if you want.
May I ask why you want to upgrade? The Pentium Dual-Core T2080 is not the fastest dual-core CPU available but it is no slouch. Personally I would stick with it and upgrade the RAM to 2GB. If you want to get more performance then upgrade the hard drive to a 7200RPM model. -
thanks for your quick reply i just want to know whether i can upgrade to a higher cpu speed and which one do i need. because sometime it seem to be a little slow than i expect from a duo core processor at that speed.
will it make a different if i upgrade to any cpu between t2400 to t7600 which ever i can find a good deal or maybe just a waste of the money? -

I am almost certain that the slow downs you are experiencing are due to a lack of RAM. I think it is a waste of money to upgrade the CPU, personally. You could add a fast 7200RPM hard drive and another GB of RAM (for a total of 2GB) for the price of the CPU upgrade.
Your system takes DDR2-533 (PC4200), 200-pin SO-DIMMs. See this thread for RAM deals:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=121363
And for hard drives, your notebook takes 2.5" SATA drives. You can find them at popular online retailers such as www.newegg.com or www.zipzoomfly.com. The 100GB 7200RPM SATA drives are great deals now. -
i still cant find the mobo info from toshibadirect.com yet?

What do you need the motherboard information for? All notebook motherboards are proprietary so getting that information would do little to nothing for you.
Try CPU-Z - it will give you some mainboard information:
http://cpuid.org/ -
the lag you're experiencing is due to only 1gb of ram trying to run Vista. Vista needs 2gb to run smoothly.
-
thanks alot chaz for the responding i think i got some idea of the mobo and cpu info from this cpu-z i will look it up for more info on this mobo.
-
i will try to upgrade some more ram.

As for my experience with the same model you have, even with just the 1gb ram upgrade you will notice a nice difference in speed. the only thing now with my computer is that it has seemed to slow down...alot. when i was in the states (florida) this computer was really fast, now that i'm down here in colombia for some reason it has become a bit slow. might be because of the lack of a/c.
Anyways, when buying more ram make sure if you are getting 2gbs to get the kit (matched pairs) mostly to save you time. I had a hell of a time trying to get things right on my computer due to the different densities on the 1gb sticks. So, now i only have 1.5gb.
If you do decide to upgrade the cpu later on i would be interested to hear how it goes as i just might think the same later on.... -

Note that upgrading the CPU will probably void your warranty. Upgrading the RAM or hard drive won't though.

to the best of my knowledge, your computer has the IntelĀ® 945PM chipset, which you could go all the way up to 4GB of ram with your computer and up to the t7600 2.33ghz core 2 duo.
ram and your hard drive is by far the biggest thing to improve your computers performance.
i suggest upgrading to atleast 2gb of memory and a 7200rpm hard drive. if you have the money go for 4gb of memory (about $220 on ebay), and although 4gb isn't used to its full capabilities yet, it sooner then later will be -
Yes of course, i should of made myself more clear. By saying later on thats really what i was referring too. Also, swapping out the ram and hard drive are far easier.
kickace...so what all would be involved in adding 4gb of ram? the specs say its max is only 2gb. Also, since its only 32 bit it wouldn't recognize all 4gb, correct, which is maybe what you were referring to as well... -
yah, 32 bit windows will only show about 3-3.4GB and 64bit will show all 4gb
My hp dv2500t sais max 2gb also, but my chipset allows it - and although HP said it can't happen, im running it right now with 4gb on a 64bit vista ultimate.
all you would need is 2 2GB sticks, 667mhz is better and make sure you get them in a pair for ddr2. ebay usually sells them for around $230, few months ago, it sold for over $1K
im almost postivie you have the 945PM chipset - which allows for 4gb, and im assuming, like HP, they will tell you it only holds 2, but 4 worked for me and should work for you -

I bought 2x 2GB modules of DDR2-667 for a shade under $190 last week - check this thread for RAM deals:

4GB is a bit excessive right now though. -
So then as far the 32bit ans 64bit systems...could i upgrade to 64bit with the same processor, or is there more involved? I eventually also wanted to upgrade to home premium but still don't know about using 64bit since there are still many incompatible applications. So, if i stay with 32bit and go 4gb would i still be able to use all 4gb or only the 3-3.5? I know it doesn't show all 4gb but just wondering if it is still used.
I would also wait for the prices to keep coming down before upgrading to 4gb anyways, but still good know.
