got this laptop used from someone with the i3-380m already in it. since they gave it to me for free i decided to upgrade it to 8gb ram, better wifi and the cpu to the i5-560m (snagged one on ebay for 19$ figured why the heck not and sold the i3 for 20$. and it will be used by the kids.

anyway this thing needed new plastics it was one of the ones without the newer bases and was all broken up so i got a new top palm rest and base plate. recovered the top lid is the "4d" carbon fiber (looks awesome imo especially in the sun). cleaned everything like new while it was opened and applied new thermal paste. i usually use mx-4 but had some of the newest pk-3 paste on hand and decided to try it out on this for the first time. i also replaced the fan while i was at it (which works perfect and spins up and down based on load)

so idle temps are about 49-50c and it jumps up to 70c pretty quick at 100% and will hit about 80-82c after running any tests for a while. this model had a pretty small heatsink so i figure it will be higher than some others and it does not of course have a designated gpu heat sink. does this sound normal or should i take this thing apart and re-apply my normal mx-4 i hate to take the whole thing apart again if this sounds normal. seems kind of high but i never have personally used a 560m in any of my notebooks and never had a toshiba c655 before this. it seems to sit around 55-60c when doing most tasks and then to over 70c then quickly drop back to around 50c within a half minute or so after the load drops.

any thoughts would be great! thank you and great place here!!

while it's a bit hot, I see no reason to be concerned i5 and i7 will start throttling at 100c as Intel has made them be able to handle high temps and you should only worry when it hits 90c+ but you can re paste it that will knock off about 6-7c or clean the heatsink

The cooling system in a C655 is nothing special - your temps are about as best as you can hope for with that laptop.
