You should be able to put any SATA 2.5" 9.5mm or 7mm drive you want in there.
Good luck. -
thank you for your reply that opens the world to me now

2.5" form factor for the drive - that is the industry standard for laptop drives (albeit some subtle variances). The capacity of the drive should only be limited by your OS and not your hardware.

That's not true - there is a hard limit of ~130GB for older BIOS'...
See:
Hard Disk Drives Capacity Limits | Hardware Secrets
Of course, that doesn't apply here. -

That, and BIOS is actually software, not hardware. It's firmware (specifically) that's stored on the CMOS chip. The hardware limitation would be either the ATA interface or the limitation on the drive itself. -

True, but if you can't get an updated BIOS - then you have to change the MB or use another hack to get that working, right?

Consider buying a Solid State Drive (SSD) instead of a hard drive. They are more expensive per GB of storage, but much faster. Check out our guide:

Naturally.
Just wanted to clarify that BIOS limitation is more or less a software limitation. Maybe I need to behave on the technicalities.

as far as i know the 130gb limitation was for IDE drives.
