I just bought a HP Pavilion dv4-1427nr Entertainment Notebook PC amd turion x2 dual core mobile rm 75 2.20 ghz 8 gigs of ram. It has a video card ati radeon hd 3200 graphics but I google it and found out its not a video card it is on board video. Not as good as a video card. Can I upgrade this system buy a video card and install? Or how doI find out without opening the laptop up to actually see the motherboard and see if it has a slot?

A "onboard graphics card" is a grpahics card.

What you mean is integrated vs. dedicated.

If you graphics card is integrated then you cannot change it as its soldered to the motherboard.
Most dedicated graphics cards are too.

DIY ViDock is the best you can do without replacing the system, with some AMD chipsets appearing able to re-route desktop video back to the internal LCD. Attaching a desktop HD4670/HD5670/HD5770/HD4870 will give a HUGE improvement in video performance.

Can the 4870 be done with ViDock yet? I thought it wasn't possible due to it requiring an external power connector.

And to the OP, I believe that you can not upgrade your GPU. There are only a few notebooks out there that support the upgrade of a GPU, and they are only models that already carry a dedicated card. Not to mention that you would void your warranty a million times in the process.

Sorry, but not going to happen.

With DIY ViDock there are no limitations on video cards used or chassis dimensions. Have confirmed HD4850, HD5750, HD5770 installations already. The HD5770 delivering 3dmark06 over 10k.

Villagetronic, the maker of the official ViDock, is scheduled to release ViDock V4 to allow installation of the larger and more power hungry cards.
