    does turning crossfire off mean the second card turns off? Im thinking of getting 2 HD 4770 instead of one HD 4870 to conserve idle and 2d power consumption. also to lower noise.

    this is for a desktop build but i guess it also applies to notebook 4870s

    As far as I know, the card might downclock to the low power state but it will NOT turn completely off.
