Alright, bear with me here but I don't really know much about TV tuners as i have no experience with them.

I am planning on getting an XPS M1210 and a 20" widescreen LCD monitor for my college dorm. I want to also use the monitor as a TV, and so far this device (first on page) seems that it would allow me to watch cable TV on the monitor:

Will this work for what I want it to do?

    -Thanks.

I don't know if the m1210 has dvi, which is prob. what you wanna be using for an lcd. If you want a tuner though, both costco and dell have a tv tuner as an option with the m1210, and they're cheaper than the ones on whatever site that is.

I know you can customize a tuner with the M1210, but can it accept coaxial cable TV?

And also, what is wrong with using vga out to a monitor from a laptop?

If you have your own laptop, and a LCD monitor. You can consider to use a USB external TV tuner. The quality is not so bad we expect, similar to PCI for desktop. To connect to a monitor just make it big screen and feel comfortable. This is a good idea if a LCD screen is very small such as 12" or 13"......

So hooking up an M1210 to a 20" widescreen LCD via VGA will look ok?

Also, is the tv tuner just an antenna or can I use it to watch cable TV?

    -Thanks.
