hi guys i was wondering
what's the difference between them in term of preformence
for example
Core 2 Duo LV L7700 1,8MHz 4mb cash fsb 800
and
Core 2 Duo T7100 1,8MHz 4mb cash fsb 800
and what's the difference between
Core 2 Duo T7800 530$
and
Core 2 Extreme X7800 851$
thanx in advance

I think the main difference for them is the battery life they would all get....I don't think theres much of a difference in performance.
Although I think the Core 2 Extreme allows for overclocking, but I'm not sure. -
core 2 extreme is quad core?

The T7100 has 2MB cache. Only T7300 and above has 4MB.

The T7000 and X7000 series are processors are the same, generally speaking, the differences being in the clockspeed. As noted the T7100 is the odd man out as it has only a 2MB L2 cache vs. the other T7000 processor's 4MB.
The L7700 is a low-voltage processor. It is designed for use in small, ultraportable notebooks. It is not out yet; the L7500 is out right now (1.6GHz). LV processor's performance is about the same as a same-clocked regular processor (so L7700 ~ T7100, might even be faster because of the 4MB vs. 2MB cache).
You did not list any ULV (Ultra Low Voltage) processors in your list. They have substantially reduced power compared to the standard processors unlike the LV processors. For example, the fastest ULV CPU you can get is the Core 2 Duo U7600 (1.2GHz/533MHz FSB/2MB L2). They are rather weak but get the job done.
Edit: more info on Intel processor numbers here (Core 2 Duo chart):

I hope that answers the question(s). -
thanx for the explnation chaz and thank you NBR.COM for this great forum

I'd rather not start my own thread, because my question is along these lines. Hopefully some more people will see this thread.
I am doing lots of research, etc. Narrowing my choices down more and more.
Anyways, I am a style freak (no I don't wear oversized sun-glasses), but I like how my techtronics look. Stereo, TV, PS3...computer. Of course, with computers and everything else, I also want performance, looks is not everything (I understand that).
The Asus U1F...looks amazing. There are some other puters along its lines that look just as good, but all of them are using the U7XXX processor. A few of the Panasonic toughbooks are appealing (I have been on a mac, so I don't know which brands I should be staying away from in the PC world).
I want a 12" +- an inch notebook, that is easy to carry around campus, with a high-res screen, but I'd like it to be powerful enough to be my only computer (good enough for some CAD work, presentations, lots of PDFs, and I am a photographer on the side, so I do some heavy photoshopping).
My PowerBook (CPU Speed: 1.67 GHz. L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB. Memory: 1.5 GB. Bus Speed: 167 MHz <- Copy and pasted from "About this Mac, hardware overview), is getting a little slow for me, and battery life is not very good, and I want something smaller (15"er).
Hmm...I've been rambling. I guess what I am getting at, what processor and RAM should I look for (seems like I'll be searching for notebooks based on that versus the size)??
Thanks a lot!!!!!

I would steer clear of the ULV processors. Even if they are dual-core, they are still going to be sluggish while running multiple apps. I've seen several reviews state this.
You should definitely get:
-Core 2 Duo
-2GB RAM
-7200RPM hard disk
And you might want to complete the FAQ in the What Should I Buy forum so we can get you some recommendations. -
I am waiting to fill out that FAQ, I don't think it is time just yet, maybe in a week. I'm basically waiting to see what the new Sony lineup is going to look like (on the 29th...or 27th? whichever). Also, I would love it if Apple would announce a darn 12" MacBook Pro. And what about the Penryn....geesh! So much! Haha
ulv vs lv vs standered processors???
