ok
here is what happened
my computer can support up to 4 gb of ram
and it came wif 2 a pair of 1s
so i decided to replcae 1 of the 1 wif a 2
so i will have 3 in total
but when i start the computer
it turns out to have only 2.5
anyone can tell me why ?

Could be a BIOs limitation or a video card siphoning. Check your video RAM, it might of 'stolen' some of it.

GPUs share RAM with the main system most of time, especially if the GPU does not have its own dedicated RAM, or, if you have a dedicated GPU, the onboard memory on the GPU may not sufficient.
If you have a integrated GPU, or a dedicated card, with a name such as "TurboMemory", the GPU will take some RAM. -
I would run CPU-Z and see how it reports each stick together and seperate, I would even switch which slot you put the RAM in, couldn't hurt? SiSoft can tell you how much RAM your MoBo can support. This will give you info whether it helps I don't know, good luck.
What are you using to measure Ram if using "sys properties" then Cpu-Z should tell actual RAM installed.
