Hi friends. i currently have a gigabyte p25x with gtx 880m.i bought it just 2 months before 980m release :(.so, I am planning on upgrading the 880m to 980m(costs ~ $800).I saw saw kits for upgrade for msi and for alienware 880m systems.but nothing is mentioned about gigabyte.Do you think that i can upgrade my laptop with those kits? are those upgrades brand specific ?. i am also thinking of selling my 880m after i install 980m so at the end it should cost somewhere between ($300-400$) or am i better off with what i have?

I don't think that's MXM so you're out of luck. If you want 980M (why would you when Nvidia is clockblocking it) you need to upgrade the entire notebook.

Actually, it looks like the P25X uses MQ processors, which are socketed, so the graphics card might be socketed as well. As for performance, even without overclocking, I'm pretty sure a 980M will beat an overclocked 880M, while likely running cooler and using less power. The 970M slightly beats the 880M, and an overclocked 970M struggles to match a stock 980M, so I doubt an overclocked 880M will either. Whether that upgrade is worth $800, on the other hand...

Not necessarily. My Y500 has a socketed CPU and soldered primary GPU. It also works the other way around, for instance the GT80 has a soldered CPU and MXM GPUs.

The Gigabyte laptops don't have MXM slots... Forget upgrading..
