upgrade celeron M to Pentium M???

I have an acer laptop with a celeron M processor. The CPU runs hot and the fan keeps running.

I wonder if it is possible to replace the celeron M with a pentium M processor?

 

I think that's doable, but putting in a more powerful processor isn't going to help your heating issues...

 

Can you post the specs, and the exact model number of your acer??

I have an HP with a celeron M 1.4Ghz I considered changing too, so I did some research.

What I did is went to Ebay, and searched for the model number of my laptop.

Sure enought, the exact same model number as mine on Ebay also came with higher rated pentium 4's as an option, so I knew one would fit in my notebook..

I would also do a search for your laptop on google, something like

"Acer (your model#here) CPU upgrade " you will probably find somone who has already tried/done it before...

if you dont have any luck, let me know, i'll see what I can do for you if you post the model number.

 

Pentium M consumes much less power because its speed is adaptive.

 

Acer aspire 3620, celeron M 1.5G.

I wish to replace it with pentium M 1.5 G.

Does anybody have such kind of experience ?

 

As long as you replace your Celeron M 360 with a Pentium M with the same FSB speed (400) and architecture(90nm); you'll be fine. You're limited to 400fsb and 90nm because of your chipset; 910GML. I would suggest upgrading while your in the process of swapping out CPUs. How about putting in a 735 while you're in there?

 

I checked www.intel.com and found that 910GML chipset only supports celeron M processors.
But ASPIRE 3610 uses Pentium M and 910GML chipset together.

 

Doesn't the Dell B120/130 series use that same chipset? They can be configured with either a Celeron, or a pentium M, limited to the 400 MHz FSB.
