    Hi all,

I own a Vostro1400. And i am reading differing opinions on what can or cannot be upgraded.

What is the upgrade potential for my processor?

    VOSTRO1400
    - C2D T7500
    - 250GB HD
    - 2GB 667Mhz RAM
    - 128MB Discrete Graphics

    this are the essentials..

Upgradeable - most likely - CPU, HD and ram. Graphics is a part of the mainboard 99.9% of the time.

CPU and HDD are alreasy pretty good and GPU will not be upgradable. The only thing that remains might be to upgrade RAM from 2GB to 3GB.

If you are referring to your CPU specifically and if it is running a T7500 - I THINK it should accept Penryns - not 100% sure though (although I just checked and the T7500 is also a Socket P CPU)- you may need a Bios flash update for compatibility with new CPUS - if Dell decides to offer one.

This is one of the reasons Intel is so annoying to me - they change the CPUS but keep the same C2D model name so the compatibility issue is always a tricky thing to answer.

Your specs are great and you have to stuck with graphics card. T7500 is a decent performer and 250GB HDD is large enough to save all your data.

hmm, I have read somewher that my gpu is soldered on, so i do suppose it cannot be changed at all. unless i force it out and resolder, which is quite radical and unsafe.

    anyways, my T7500 is a 4mb cache, 800mhz fsb.

from the link provided by DVSman, i suppose as long as processors are P-socketed and the the bios actually supports the processor type, it can be upgraded?

apparently my dell bios version A07, can support penryn, but i am not too sure.

kowell says that ram is upgradeable to 3gb. my question is, would that be unstable? don't upgrading of ram needs to be done in pairs? i.e. for a 2 slots sodimm, either both 512mb, both 1gb or both 2gb..is it recommended for 1gb+2gb?

    thanks to all once again...
