    You can upgrade the processor.

EDIT: He has a AMD based DV7

The graphics card on the Dv7 series has an integrated graphics card which is not upgradeable.

Other wise you can upgrade the memory, harddrive, optical drive, wireless, etc

Hp does not know what they are talking about. You can easily upgrade to a 500gb 5400rpm harddrive or a 500gb 7200rpm harddrive. Their is no way HP can limit the size of the drive recognized to 320gb max.

dont post your email on a public forum, you will get spammed.
click edit on your post to delete your email

Just upload an image of the CPU-Z main page and the motherboard page and everything can be determined

Okay, well you have an AMD based DV7,
The 780G chipset is among the latest from AMD. That chipset supports the Turion ultra processors.
Your system may be running slow because your cpu is running at 500MHz instead of 2Ghz.
You can upgrade your processor to any RM/ZM/QL turion processor.

The processor in your system is socket S1
Your current cpu is a RM-70, 2.0Ghz dual core, 1mb L2, and 31 watt TDP
The RM-74 would be an upgrade to 2.2Ghz dual core, 1mb L2, and 35 watt TDP
However your best upgrade at the moment is the ZM-86,
    The ZM-86 is 2.4Ghz Dual core, 2mb L2, and 35 watt TDP

The ZM processors are going for around $200 on ebay
I do not think the 400MHz upgrade is going to be worth $200.
Most computer shops charge in the neighborhood of $60 an hour. It can take 1-2 hours or more if the technician is not skilled.

Any sata hard drive will work. Even SSD. Right now your current hard drive is a wd2500bevs (im pretty sure thats what the 250gb drive is) Anyways if you dont care about money get a SSD. If you do then get a wd0000bekt serries drive they are 7200rpm and decently fast. I have a BEvt the 5400rpm version of the drive and its pretty quick.
