I just won an e1505 dell on ebay for around $630.. its the dual core t2060 533mhz fsb; 802.11gb too., 2gb ram, 80gb 5400 rpm drive

I ideally originally wanted the core2 duo t5600 667mhz fsb unit, the one with the go 7300 board or x1400..

From reading through this forum it appears unless I had either the go7300 or x1400 dedicated boards, I cant upgrade to another video card originally or in the future offered on this one?

My question is can I upgrade the cpu to this cpu: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819111303&ATT=19-111-303&CMP=OTC-Froogle

Can I upgrade the wireless to this one: http://www.softarcade.net/Dell-NJ449-Card-WIRELESS-MINICARD-DW1500-MIMO_p_1972-5995.html

Or add the internal BT if its not there, I think this is the BT: http://www.softarcade.net/Dell-rj421-_p_1255-22379.html

Finally, if I cant upgrade the cpu (and i'm sure I cant upgrade the video, sadly).. Is it possible to use the chasis it came with and just replace the whole motherboard with the motherboard that comes with the Dual Core2 version with dedicated graphics..

**Is the geforce 7300 with turbocache considered dedicated? I would think this is actually integrated, but the notes on the forum seem otherwise.

Thanks for any help on this.. I'm a PC/server guy.. this is my first laptop in 20 years LOL (ever).

You'll need to upgrade the motherboard if you have the GMA950, and want the x1400/7300 I believe.

You can upgrade the CPU, I'm not sure about that certain wireless card, and not too sure on the BT module.

For the money you're looking at to upgrade all of that you'd probably be better off just buying a laptop configured the way you want it and use the coupon codes to get it down in price.

What are these coupon codes, or rather, where would they be found?

    Cheers

Thanks for the link.. i see these now.. still around $1400 for a 2.0 dual core2 with x1400 card e1505 or about $1590 for e1705 with geforce 7900, even with coupons.

I tabulated that i could probably put in the 667mhz ram and a 2.0ghz dual core2 cpu (if the bios takes these).. i could also do the mini pcie wirelessn.. total cost.. around $470 ontop of the 630 already paid.. so still less than $1499, but not by much.

    Summarizing again:

    IE: ram: http://www.wiredzone.com/itemdesc.asp?ic=32001860&source=froogle

    cpu: http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?p=T7...ee3a884cb6222682cc77b53eddebd9801480e3800d7e1
    or
    cpu: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819111303&ATT=19-111-303&CMP=OTC-Froogle or http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=T5600BOX

    802.11n http://www.softarcade.net/Dell-rj421-_p_1255-22379.html

then sell the old parts on ebay to make back some of the cash I guess..

    But...
I shoulda realized the dedicated card issue b4 i got this laptop, now I'm stuck eternally with the intel 950 chipset... unless I could just put in a whole other motherboard, the one that takes the dedicated card.. but I dont know how i'd know if that would fit in the e1505.. they all should be the same chasis I would think though. But then again, the cost would probably the same as just doing it right from the start.

Does all this seem within reason at this point?

I would probably want to call Dell and ask them (if they even give me a straight answer, as often their support is terrible) about the cpu compatibility...

Yea, upgrading the motherboard isn't a wise choice, a mobo itself will cost at least $300-400 with the x1400.

True you may save a few hundred if you upgrade yourself, but you save hassle and potentially, a warranty(for better or for worse).
