    GTS160M
    based on G94b core
    64 Stream processors
    default clock: Core600 / SP1500 / Mem1600

    9800MGTX
    based on G92 core
    112 Stream processors
    default clock: Core500 / SP1250 / Mem1600

    my laptop is MSI-GT628

I am going to sell my GTS 160M for $90 and buy a 9800M GTX for $150

    when I am using a Pentium T4500 @ 3166MHz
    the GTS160M can be overclocked to Core700 / SP1800 / Mem2000
    3D06 benched for 12000 marks

    when I upgrade the CPU to QX9200 @ 2.9GHz
the GPU can hold only Core675 / SP1675 / Mem1900 stable in gaming
    3D06 benched for 13600 marks

the question is : if I upgrade the GPU to 9800M GTX , will I get higher performance after overclocking ?

I am not sure if the larger core GPU(9800MGTX) can be overclocked to such high GPU clock (like the GTS160M)

    GTS 160M TDP 35W
    9800MGTX TDP 65W
    QX9200 TDP 45W

    my Power supply is only 120W and I am using a QX9200 @ 3.3GHz right now :(

Nice prices, I would guess that you could sell your GPU for more.

And there's another thing, will 9800M GTX work in Your system? 9800M GTX is 65W card. It's MXM-HE form factor with extra connector for power and MSI have only MXM III socket if I not mistake. GTS 160M have as well extra connector but probably beacause it's much lower power hungry card then 9800M GTX it actually don't need feed via this connector. But I'm not sure about that, You have to ask about that someone with greater knowledge in subject.

Where do you guys even find these cards to buy? My 8700m GT recently burned out. I baked it, it works now, but tanks on any 3D applications. I'd love to get another card and save this $2.8k lappy from becoming a paper weight.

Sometimes you can find them for sale in the forum marketplace.
Here is where you will usually find the best price.

But ebay is also good. And there are places that sell cards new like:

    I believe your GT628 could do a x2 1.0 DIY ViDock Setup. A desktop HD5770 at x2 1.0 will outperform the 9800GTX.

the Mobility HD5850 and the GTX 460M is MXM 3.0

no support on my mainbroad :(

the 9800M GTX max clock as far as I know is 562/1440/1900
    bcz of the limited PSU

almost the same performance comparing to the GTS160M @ 700/1800/2000

    that is a sad info

Maybe you should get a 4850, it doesn't need the HE tab.

    9800M GTS SLI> GTS 160M = HD 4850 > HD 5850 GDDR3

Yeah, but only marginally. It's not phenomenally better.

I think his GTS 160M = 4850 is a bit off, considering that the 4850 is a little better than the GTX 260M, and the 260M is better than the 160M.

pure nonsence.. 4850 can trash a 9800M GTX.. even a GTS SLI... anyways , go ahead with upgrade but get a bigger power supply..

Yeah you are right that guy is nuts!
    GTS 160m = 4850 ??

    LMAO!!!!

The 4850 is even more powerful than a gtx 260m....
Even the hd 3870 is almost on par with the gts 160m... ;) (I had both)

    theres a Gen1 an Gen2 9800mGTX

still have original Gen1> max can reach 664/1035/1660
had reports that Gen2 cant match it

think able to reach high clks is to do with setup, no dust inside, all fans on 100% speed all the time in xpsm1730 an possibly to do with gpu bios different to Gen2

the card owener told me that his 9800M GTX max clock isI Core562/Mem950/SP1440

that may be the Gen2 :(

I'd better stick to GTS 160M

and then change to a Clevo D900F
